The National Indigenous Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Professional Network (NISTEMPN) acknowledges all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of these lands, now known as Australia. We acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded. NISTEMPN recognise our continuing connection to lands, seas, waterways, skies, cultures and communities, as the longest continuing cultures, globally. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present.

We are building a strong network to promote and build capabilities, with mentoring at the core, and to share, facilitate success, and to collaborate on and advance our work, research, Knowledges and practices. This gathering will assist in influencing the Academies to shift their thinking on our Knowledges

What we've done

To date we've held two online gatherings to bring together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and community peoples with Indigenous Knowledges in STEM, practitioners, academics and students. As a collaborative we determined our NISTEMPN's aims and established a Leadership committee to organise our inaugural face-to-face Gathering

'Moving forward—Looking Back, through connecting and inspiring'

at The University of Technology Sydney (UTS)

Building 8, UTS Business School, 14/28 Ultimo Rd, Ultimo

6-9 November 2022

More information will be shared after our Gathering

Are you Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and a STEM Indigenous Knowledge keeper/holder, practitioner, academic, or student? If so, you can now join our network by completing the form. There's no fee for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Gathering Program

A Gathering Agenda is finalised. See our Gathering page for up to date information about the Gathering. We have set the themes, based on the aims determined from our collaborations in the first two online Gatherings. Inspiring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders including Rachael Cavanagh of the Yugambeh/Bundjalung nations will present for our Keynotes on Monday and Tuesday. Our deadly leadership committee will be on a panel for the final day. Multiple workshops are scheduled each day to identify and plan each of our aims' objectives (the steps to achieve our aims). We anticipate working groups, or sub-committees will be formed, as an outcome of the Gathering, to accomplish the desired objectives. This will see us reach our aims and continue to develop and grow our deadly network
